Rohit Sharma made history by achieving the fastest century by an Indian in the World Cup, taking just 63 balls to reach this milestone during a thrilling match against Afghanistan in Delhi. This 36-year-old cricketer surpassed Virender Sehwag‘s record of an 81-ball hundred against Bermuda in the 2007 World Cup.
In addition to this remarkable feat, Rohit also set a new record for the most centuries in World Cup history, securing his seventh century across three different editions. This achievement surpasses Sachin Tendulkar‘s record of six centuries achieved in as many seasons.
The 36-year-old Rohit Sharma has equaled a World Cup record by becoming the fastest batsman to reach 1000 runs in just 19 innings. This feat places him along with Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Virat Kohli.
Rohit embarked on his World Cup journey during the 2015 edition, amassing 330 runs, including a century in the quarterfinal against Bangladesh. Notably, he set a new record for the most centuries in a single edition by scoring five centuries in the 2019 World Cup. His exceptional performance during that tournament saw him finish as the highest run-scorer with a total of 648 runs.
