Introduction
The coaches who worked with Asit Hembram in recent times had similar opinions that this 22-year-old striker is set to take off with an eye-catching show in the upcoming Kolkata Premier Football league which will not witness any foreign footballer after a gap of four decades. Asit played a crucial role in guiding Kalighat MS to the Premier Division last season from Premier Division B, scoring nine goals in the team’s 14 league matches. He was the top scorer in the Premier B Division last season. Even in his brief stint with New Alipore Suruchi Sangha in the recently concluded Reliance Under-21 Youth League, Asit struck four goals in all four matches his team participated.
Asit Hembram’s Journey
Asit lives in a village in Burdwan district named Khannan. After his father’s demise in 2015, their family is run by his elder brother Asim Hembram who is an employee of the Indian Railway. Asim also used to play football and now desires his brother to build up his career being a successful footballer in the future. After honing basic skills in the East Bengal junior team in 2016-17, Asit entered the mainstream of Kolkata football by joining a fifth-division team Pathachakra. After playing there a couple of seasons, he joined Kalighat MS last season. Before the upcoming Kolkata Premier League this season also, Kalighat MS will be relying on his performance.
The Hard Work
Asit is also dedicated to fulfilling his elder brother’s dream. Even after traveling almost four-and-half hours up and down from his residence to the club for training every day, Asit used to practice alone at a local ground throughout the last season. He added,
“Exhausted from the tiring journey, I found solace in returning home, only to continue practicing in the evening at our nearby local ground alongside a few of my friends. I follow the same routine now also. I have to improve scoring ability, develop more speed in both off-the-ball and physical strength also.”
The Desire of Asit Hembram
Asit is desperate to prove his mettle in the Kolkata Premier League this season. He commented,
“I must have to perform. Otherwise, I cannot represent Bengal and my job will ultimately depend on my certificate whether I have represented Bengal or not.”
