India vs New Zealand Women 2nd T20: India Loses in 100th ODI, NZ Take Away Series

New Zealand women defeated India in the second T20I at Auckland today (8 February 2019) in a tense, last-over thriller.

9 runs required in the final over, Katey Martin swept Mansi Joshi for a boundary. On the very next ball, she was clean bowled. Hannah Rowe scored 2 runs on the third ball and a single on the fourth. With 2 runs remaining from 2 deliveries, Kasperek and Rowe squeezed singles, winning the match by 4 wickets and clinching India vs New Zealand Women T20 series by 2-0.

India Women vs New Zealand Women T20:  As it happened

India batted first and lost opener Priya Punia (4) in the second over of the match. Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodriguez stitched together a brilliant partnership of 63. Left-hander Mandhana made 27 off 36 balls. She hit 3 fours and a six. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (5) fell immediately later. Hemalatha was retired hurt for 2 and Deepti Sharma became run out for 6 off Katey Martin. Arundhati Reddy also made only 3.

It was only Jemimah Rodriguez who contributed the most. She scored 72 off 53 balls with 6 fours and a six. India made 135/6 in their 20 overs.


For New Zealand, Rosemary Mair picked up 2 wickets while Sophie Devine, Amelia Kerr and Leigh Kasperek claimed a wicket each.

New Zealand Innings

Chasing 136, the experienced Suzie Bates anchored the New Zealand chase. Sophie Devine made 19 off 16 balls while Captain Satterthwaite contributed 23 (20). Bates made 62 off 52 balls including 5 fours. It was all to the final over with 9 runs needed. The match went up to the last ball and New Zealand clinched the game with 4 wickets and the series 2-0.

For India, Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy picked up 2 wickets each while Mansi Joshi and Poonam Yadav claimed a wicket each.

India women’s cricket team completes a century in T20Is

The Indian women cricket team has completed a century in Twenty20 International cricket. They played their 100th match at Eden Park in Auckland against New Zealand on Friday. India women will hope to win their 100th T20I match and level the three-match series against the hosts in the second match.

The Women in Blue have come a long way, having won 53 out of the 99 matches played so far and losing 44.
