Daniel Ebenyo, who secured a silver medal in the 10,000m World Championships for Kenya, and Almaz Ayana from Ethiopia, the winner of the 2017 Delhi half-marathon, will be the leading elite athletes in the men’s and women’s divisions at the 18th Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon. This race, which holds a World Athletics Gold Label designation, is scheduled to take place in the Indian capital on Sunday, October 15, 2023.
Almaz Ayana, the Olympic 10,000m champion from 2016, achieved a remarkable victory in the 13th edition of the annual sporting event held in Delhi. She secured back-to-back World titles in 2015 (5,000m) and 2017 (10,000m). The sporting extravaganza began in 2005. The Ethiopian athlete, who achieved a personal best time of 1:05:30 earlier this year in Lisbon and secured a seventh-place finish in the London Marathon, is now setting sights on breaking the Delhi course record of 1:04:46, currently held by fellow country-mate Yalemzerf Yehualaw since 2020.
Meanwhile, Daniel Simiyu Ebenyo, the silver medalist at the World Championships, placed sixth in the World Cross-Country Championships held in Bathurst, Australia, in early 2023. He had previously recorded a remarkable personal best time of 59:04 in the half-marathon distance in Manama last year, which is very close to the Delhi course record of 58:53. As a result, he enters the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon with high hopes and expectations.
