Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu displayed remarkable determination in her quarterfinal battle at the Arctic Open Super 500 on Friday, defeating Vietnam’s Thuy Linh Nguyen in a thrilling contest lasting 91 minutes. Now Sindhu secured her spot in the semifinals by triumphing over Nguyen with a final score of 20-22, 22-20, 21-18. This marks PV Sindhu’s fourth semifinal appearance of the year, having previously reached the semifinals of the Spain Masters (where she was a finalist), Malaysia Masters, and Canada Open.
Her next opponent in the semifinal will be China’s Wang Zhi Yi, who is currently ranked 11th in the world. With Tai Tzu Ying no longer in the tournament, Sindhu finds herself in an excellent position to clinch her first title of the year.

Sindhu’s quarterfinal match began with a narrow loss in the first game, despite initially holding an 11-4 lead at the mid-game break. She eventually conceded the first game with a score of 20-22. However, the second game saw a reversal of fortunes, with Sindhu claiming victory by securing five consecutive points. In the decisive third game, Nguyen made a late comeback effort, but Sindhu showcased her exceptional skills, maintaining a comfortable 20-15 lead before ultimately closing out the match after one hour and 31 minutes of intense play.
Sindhu stands as the sole remaining Indian contender at the Arctic Open, as Kiran George, Kidambi Srikanth, Aakarshi Kashyap, and the pairing of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto all bowed out in the last-16 stage on Thursday.
