Asian Games: Lovlina Borgohain Packs a Punch, Clinches Silver in Women’s Boxing Showdown

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain fought her way bravely to a silver medal against China in the Women’s 75 kg boxing final in Asian Games, Hangzhou. Lovlina was defeated by Li Qian from China with a unanimous 5-0 verdict.

With a 5-0 victory over Thailand’s Maneekon Baison in the semifinal with a unanimous verdict from the judges, Borgohain qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Borgohain became the fourth Indian boxer to clinch the Olympic quota for the Paris Olympics following Parveen Hooda, Preeti, and Nikhat Zareen. The victory was sufficient for Borgohain to secure her participation in next year’s Olympics.

She had to compete against Li Qian of China in the final. In the opening round, both boxers came out swinging with a barrage of punches intended to outmatch the other.

Both boxers chose to go on the defense after a competitive start, tempting and teasing the other to reach out and take their chances. Both competitors exchanged good blows with one another as the first round came to a close, leading the judges to declare a split decision.

Despite Lovlina’s strong efforts and well-executed left jabs, the judges unanimously ruled in favor of Li Quan, crowning her the champion and securing the Gold for China.
