Asian Games: Nikhat Zareen Bags Paris Olympic Quota, Secures Medal With Semis Spot in 50kg Category

Indian boxer, Nikhat Zareen has successfully secured her place in the upcoming Paris Olympics while also guaranteeing India a medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. She achieved this by emerging victorious in her quarterfinal match. In the women’s 50kg quarterfinals, Nikhat Zareen faced off against Hanan Nassar from Jordan. Impressively, she needed less than two minutes to secure a victory via knockout, prompting the referees to halt the bout.

Zareen’s remarkable dominance in the boxing arena was further highlighted by her recent second World Championship title win and her earlier gold medal victory at the Commonwealth Games. Nikhat has now advanced to the semifinals in her weight category, ensuring at least a bronze medal, but her sights are firmly set on clinching the gold.

In Friday’s boxing matches, Lakshya Chahar of India faced a split decision loss to Bekzhigit Uulu Omurbek from Kyrgyzstan in the Men’s 80kg Round of 16. Meanwhile, Parveen Hooda, the 2022 World Championships bronze medalist, advanced to the quarter-finals in the Women’s 57kg Round of 16 with an impressive 5-0 victory over China’s Xu Zichun.

In the preceding round, Nikhat displayed her dominance in the women’s event by securing a convincing 5-0 win against her South Korean opponent, Chorong Bak. Nikhat, hailing from Nizamabad in Telangana, boasts an illustrious record of achievements, including two-time World Champion titles and a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She has also earned a bronze at the Asian Championships and a gold at the World Junior and Youth Championships.
