In another captivating bout, Zoram Muana showcased superior technique in the 51kg category pre-quarterfinals, triumphing over Kazakhstan boxer Daryan Kulzhabayev with a split 4-1 verdict. Muana’s exceptional performance sets up an intriguing quarterfinal clash against Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Saken Bibossinov from Kazakhstan, scheduled for Thursday.
Among the remaining quarterfinal matches, Shivender Kaur (50kg) faced a tough challenge against Gulnar Tarapbay of Kazakhstan, ultimately losing 1-4. Sonia Lather (57kg) battled against the home team’s boxer Grafeyeva Viktoriya but was unable to secure a victory, falling short with a 0-5 defeat. Poonam (60kg) displayed incredible resilience in her match against Issayeva Shakhnaz of Kazakhstan but was edged out with a narrow 2-3 margin. Sanjay (80kg) faced a formidable opponent in Khabibullaev Turabek of Uzbekistan, suffering a defeat in the quarterfinal bout with a score of 0-5.
Looking ahead, four Indian boxers will compete in their respective quarterfinal bouts on Thursday. Pukharam Kishan Singh (54kg) will square off against Daulet Moldashev of Kazakhstan, while Ashish Kumar (57kg) will face Sukthet Sarawut of Thailand. Hemant Yadav (71kg) is set to go head-to-head against Talgat Shaikenov of Kazakhstan in what promises to be an exciting contest.
In the women’s category, Shiksha (54kg) is preparing for her last-eight bout against Zhaina Shekerbekova of Kazakhstan, ready to showcase her skills and determination in the ring.
