Playing with the black pieces, Praggnanandhaa exhibited his skills by playing out a 30-move draw against the 32-year-old Carlsen. The preceding day saw Praggnanandhaa securing a draw while playing as white against Carlsen. As a result, the eventual winner of this closely contested match will be determined through a tiebreaker scheduled for Thursday.
Praggnanandhaa’s journey to the championship was particularly remarkable, as he managed to overcome two out of the top three players in the global rankings throughout the competition. In the fourth round of the tournament, he secured a victory against Hikaru Nakamura.
Additionally, in the semifinals, he displayed his superiority by defeating Fabiano Caruana, who is ranked third in the world. These consecutive victories paved the way for an ultimate showdown in the final against the Norwegian player Carlsen, who currently holds the top rank in the world.
The young prodigy received a pass in the initial round of the World Cup, and in the following round, triumphed over Maxime Lagarde, a 29-year-old competitor from France. Demonstrating prowess, the Indian participant achieved a score of 1.5-0.5 against the French contender.
Subsequently, in the third round, the Indian faced off against David Navara, a 38-year-old Grandmaster from the Czech Republic, and managed to outshine him. This victory propelled the teenager into the fourth round, where he astounded the global audience with a 3-1 triumph over Nakamura.
