In the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24, Mumbai City FC mounted a comeback, scoring two late second-half goals through Greg Stewart and Jorge Pereyra Diaz, securing a 2-1 win against Punjab FC on their home turf. For the majority of the match, Punjab FC performed admirably, with their star striker Luka Majcen challenging Mohammed Nawaz with a header in the 14th minute.
Mumbai City FC persistently pressed for an equalizer, with Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Lalengmawia Ralte coming close to scoring. Apuia even struck the post, but it was Stewart, the former ISL Golden Ball winner, who ultimately leveled the score. As the match approached full-time, Mumbai City FC didn’t rely on individual moments of brilliance. Instead, they continued to work together on their attacking strategies, and it was Stewart who placed the ball in the net, assisted by Rane, to draw level with Punjab FC.
Punjab City FC’s performance deteriorated after that incident, as Dimitris Chatziisaias received his second yellow card and was consequently ejected from the game in the 98th minute.
