India, already securing a spot in the semifinals, delivered a resounding 5-0 victory against South Korea in their final league match of the women’s Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament. Salima Tete exhibited her prowess by netting two goals, one in the sixth minute and another in the 36th minute, while Navneet Kaur added to the tally with a penalty corner goal in the 36th minute.
Vandana Katariya (49th) and Neha (60th) also contributed to India’s dominant performance. With an impeccable record of 15 points from a flawless league campaign, India claimed the top position in the six-team table. They are now set to face South Korea once again in the upcoming semifinals on Saturday. South Korea, on the other hand, secured the fourth spot with a total of seven points.
In the tournament’s structure, the team that secures the highest ranking following the round-robin league stage competes against the fourth-place finisher in the semifinals, while the second and third-placed teams play against each other.
China claimed the second position in the rankings by defeating Japan 1-0 in a match during that day. China and Japan both accumulated nine points in the tournament. They were evenly matched in terms of goal difference (+9 each) and goals scored (12 each). China ultimately secured the second position due to their superior head-to-head performance.
