Deepika scored in the 15th minute, and Salima Tete followed with a goal in the 26th minute, giving the home team the lead. Zhong Jiaqi managed to score for China in the 41st minute.

China had dashed India’s hopes of securing a direct entry to the Tokyo Olympics by defeating them in the Asian Games semifinals in Hangzhou just last month. However, in their third group stage match on Monday, India turned the tables, securing the top position in the standings.

India began the match with an aggressive approach, attempting to penetrate the Chinese defense from left to right. However, the Chinese team formed a solid defensive barrier to counter the host’s efforts.

India maintained control of the ball, and their first penalty corner opportunity was earned by Jyoti Sonika but was missed due to a mistake by stopper Monika. Shortly after, the home team was granted a penalty stroke, and Deepika executed it with flair, scoring with only 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
