On Wednesday, Hockey India revealed the list for the 20-member Indian Women’s Hockey Team, which will participate in the prestigious Jharkhand Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023. The tournament is scheduled to take place from October 27 to November 5.
This Indian team recently secured a bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou and will face formidable competition from Japan, China, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand in this upcoming event. The team will be under the leadership of Savita Punia, with Deep Grace Ekka serving as her deputy.
The Indian campaign in the tournament kicks off on October 27 against Thailand, followed by a match against Malaysia on October 28. On October 30, India will face China, and they will compete against Japan on October 31.
India is scheduled to face Korea in their last pool match on November 2. The semifinals and the championship match of the competition are slated for November 4 and 5, respectively. In the squad, Bichu Devi Kharibam has been designated as the backup for Savita, while the defensive lineup includes Nikki Pradhan, Udita, Ishika Chaudhary, and Deep Grace Ekka.
Nisha, Salima Tete, Neha, Navneet Kaur, Sonika, Monika, Jyoti, and Baljeet Kaur constitute the midfield, while Lalremsiami, Sangita Kumari, Deepika, and Vandana Katariya have been designated as the squad’s forward players. In addition, Sharmila Devi and Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke will accompany the team as alternative choices.
