Sumit Antil showcased his extraordinary talent once again by achieving a remarkable feat at the 2023 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China. In the men’s javelin throw F64 event at Para Asian Games, Sumit Antil not only secured a gold medal but also established a new world record. On this memorable Wednesday, Sumit launched the javelin at an astonishing distance of 73.29 meters, surpassing his own prior world record of 70.83 meters, which he had set earlier in the year at the Para World Championships.
Notably, Sumit’s prowess in javelin throw is no stranger to world records, as he had previously shattered the record three times at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Furthermore, he set a new Games record in Hangzhou by outperforming his own previous record of 56.29 meters, established during the 2018 Asian Para Games.

Starting with an initial throw of 66.22 meters, Sumit immediately took the lead with his first attempt and progressively improved his performance in the subsequent two throws. His second attempt yielded a distance of 70.48 meters, and he secured the gold medal with a remarkable effort of 73.29 meters in his third throw. Sumit’s outstanding performance at the Para World Championships in July 2023 not only earned him the gold medal but also ensured his qualification for the Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024.
Another Indian athlete competing in the same event, Pushpendra Singh, achieved a bronze medal by throwing a distance of 62.06 meters. Meanwhile, Sandeep finished in fourth place with a throw covering a distance of 61.84 meters.
