The Indian team consisting of Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena made history by securing the top two positions in the Javelin Throw event in Asian Games, Hangzhou, marking India’s first-ever 1-2 finish in this competition. Chopra, who had previously won the Gold at the 2018 Asian Games with an impressive throw of 88.06 meters, has maintained his exceptional performance since then.
As the reigning Olympic, World, Asian, and Diamond League champion, Chopra was widely considered the frontrunner in this event. With the unfortunate news of Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem being sidelined due to injury, there appeared to be no significant competition to challenge Chopra’s dominance.
During the initial throw of the competition, Chopra unleashed a powerful projectile that appeared to cover a remarkable distance of over 80 meters. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, the officials did not record the result of his first throw. Consequently, Chopra was granted an additional opportunity to make his initial attempt once again.
Neeraj Chopra unleashed a remarkable throw of 88.88 meters during his fourth attempt, thereby securing the leading position once more, surpassing Jena. In response, Kishore Jena delivered an impressive performance with a throw of 87.54 meters, leaving the other competitors astonished.
