The Indian men’s volleyball squad achieved a momentous victory by defeating a higher-ranked South Korean team 3-2 in a captivating match, securing their spot in the knockout stage of the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Despite India’s world ranking at 73rd, considerably lower than South Korea’s 27th position, the teams engaged in an exhilarating five-set contest that kept spectators on the edge of their seats throughout Wednesday’s match.
The Indian team ultimately triumphed, claiming victory with scores of 25-27, 29-27, 25-22, 20-25, and 17-15. The final Group C clash for the Indian volleyball team lasted for intense two hours and 38 minutes, with both teams displaying incredible determination.
However, against all odds, the Indian side managed to achieve a remarkable upset against the three-time champions. After securing a convincing 3-0 victory against Cambodia on Tuesday, the Indian men’s volleyball team advanced to the top position in the table with a total of five points.

For those unfamiliar with the history, the Indian men’s volleyball team has not secured a medal at this competition since their bronze win at the 1986 Asian Games. In the 2018 tournament, India’s performance resulted in a 12th-place finish. However, they are now looking to enhance their performance following an inspiring display. Notably, India achieved their first victory against South Korea in a decade, showcasing exceptional prowess in a match preceding the knockout stages.
