India’s World Cup semi-final against New Zealand is anticipated to feature a slow pitch, following a request from the team management to BCCI curators to trim most of the grass on the playing surface at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Local curators from the BCCI have established a local organizing group to manage pitches nationwide during the World Cup. Additionally, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has dispatched its own experts to different venues for each game. An official from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) verified that instructions were communicated to create a slow track before the home team arrived in Mumbai.
In recent years, India has excelled on slow tracks at home. Prior to the World Cup, the team management specifically asked for their matches to be scheduled on slow pitches.
