In the 100 meters, Pijush has clocked his best time so far in the youth national in Bhopal when he finished at 11.3 seconds while he clocked 22.16 seconds in the 200 meters in the youth national championship in Bhopal to ensure a silver medal. This was his best timing. Amidst the four junior national championships, Pijush ensured a bronze medal in the 300-meter event in the under-16 national championship in 2016.

Athletics as an alternative

Pijush’s mother Pratima Ghosh revealed that Pijush was restless in childhood, and often used to make mischief. That was the key reason she and her husband decided to make Pijush busy in sports, precisely athletics.

Pijush said,

“We cannot train on the tartan track. Naturally, it becomes difficult for us to assess performance. I have the desire to train on the tartan track at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Kolkata complex after I finish my 12th class final examination next year.”

Influence of Cristiano Ronaldo on Pijush

Pijush is highly influenced by Cristiano Ronaldo’s childhood struggle and success. He said,

Pijush is also influenced by India’s former cricket captain MS Dhoni. He added,

“I try to take calmness and a cool-headed mind from him.”

Simultaneously, Pijush mentioned he is plagued by nervousness before the competition and during that phase, he tries to generate confidence by remembering Ronaldo and MS Dhoni’s interviews. He also mentioned that he does meditation before any major competition.
