Though he currently ranks at number 17 in the squash world rankings, he was at number 10 in April 2019. The man came into the limelight when he won the bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Saurav was a bright and brilliant squash player right from the age group tournaments. In 2004, he won the British Junior Open, thus becoming the first Indian to achieve the feat. 2 years later, Saurav defeated Gaurav Nandrajog in the 2006 National Championship Delhi. With this win, this squash player became the “Indian National Champion.”

With many thumping wins and many accolades, he was awarded the Arjuna Award by the Indian government in 2007. In the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, he won two bronze medals in the men’s singles and team events. 3 years later, in Manchester, England he became the first Indian to reach the quarterfinal mark of the World Squash Championship. With a series of victories and a number of medals, Saurav started to get recognition as the rising star from India.

2016 South Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, the man bagged a bronze medal in the singles competition. Later, he continued to pile the medals as he came second pocketing a silver medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, playing mixed doubles. In the same year, Saurav won two bronze medals in the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. One he got was for the win in singles and the other for a victory in a team competition.

He continued his winning streak by winning the gold medal in the 2019 Asian Individual Championships. And most notably, with a bronze medal feat in the Commonwealth Games 2022, he became the first Indian to do so in the game of squash.

Saurav Ghosal is married. He married Diya Pallikal in February 2017. Diya is the sister of another famous Indian squash player Dipika Pallikal who is the wife of Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik.
