The Great Khali was born Dalip Singh Rana in Himachal Pradesh, India, on August 26, 1972. Born into a poor family and as one of seven siblings, he had to work immensely hard to make ends meet. He was diagnosed with acromegaly early on in life, due to which he has his giant stature and his protruding chin. For a brief period, he also worked in the Punjab Police. He began his wrestling career in India, where he won several championships. In 2000, he was signed by the WWE and made his debut in 2001.

Professional Wrestling Career

He started his professional wrestling career with All Pro Wrestling in 2001. Following this, he went into WCW (World Championship Wrestling) and worked there for 8 months, till it was bought by its rival company, WWF. For a brief period, he also worked in New Japan Pro Wrestling. However, it was in WWE that he made a name for himself.

Khali quickly made a name for himself in the WWE. His size and strength allowed him to dominate his opponents, and he soon became one of the most popular wrestlers in the company. In 2006, he won the World Heavyweight Championship, becoming the first Indian-born wrestler to hold the title.

Khali held the World Heavyweight Championship for 110 days before losing it to Rey Mysterio. He would go on to win the WWE Championship in 2007, but he would only hold the title for 21 days before losing it to John Cena.
