Ronaldo was born in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, to Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro and José Dinis Aveiro. He has an older brother, Hugo, and two older sisters, Katia and Elma. Ronaldo was named after former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who was his father’s favorite actor.

Ronaldo began playing football at a young age. He joined his local youth team, Andorinha, at the age of eight. Two years later, he moved to Nacional. In 1997, at the age of 12, Ronaldo was signed by Sporting CP, one of the biggest clubs in Portugal.

Professional Career

Cristiano Ronaldo or CR7 made his professional debut for Sporting CP in 2002, at the age of 17. He quickly caught the eye of scouts from all over Europe, and in 2003, he signed for Manchester United for a fee of £12 million.

CR7 spent six seasons at Manchester United, during which time he won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Champions League. He was also named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2008.
