Jyothi Yarraji Early Life
On August 28, 1999, Jyothi Yarraji was born in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Jyothi Yarraji, like many Indian athletes, came from a poor family. Kumari, her mother, works part-time as a cleaner at a metropolitan hospital. Her father, Suryanarayana works as a private security guard. They made a total of less than Rs 18,000 every month.

Jyothi Yarraji Professional Life
Jyothi Yarraji rose to prominence in 2015 after winning the gold medal at an inter-district competition in Andhra Pradesh. She then transferred to the SAI Centre in Hyderabad to train with Olympian and Dronacharya awardee N Ramesh.
Jyothi Yarraji moved to the Odisha athletics high-performance facility in Bhubaneswar in 2019, and subsequently met British coach James Hillier there.
In January 2020, she set a national record by running 13.03 seconds to win gold at the All India Inter-University Athletics Meet in Karnataka. Unfortunately, this could not be officially recorded since the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) did not test her before the competition, and there was no technical representative from the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) present. She achieved another national record with a timing of 13.09 seconds at the Federation Cup in Kozhikode. However, it was rejected since it was a wind-assisted run. Later on, she won gold at the Khelo India University Games.
Devastated yet motivated, she came back strong and made her international debut on May 10, 2022, in the Cyprus International Athletics event in Limassol. Jyothi Yarraji eventually surpassed Anuradha Biswal’s 2002 record of 13.38 seconds in the women’s 100m hurdles with a performance of 13.23 seconds.
Jyothi’s Triumphs at Mega Events
She won the gold medal at the Loughborough International in the UK in May with a time of 13.11 seconds, then four days later at the Harry Schulting Games in the Netherlands with a time of 13.04 seconds.
She finished seventh in the final of the 100-metre hurdles in the national inter-state senior athletics championship in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in June 2022.
Jyothi earned bronze in the 100m hurdles at the England Athletics Championships in Bedford, Great Britain, in July 2022.

In the 36th National Games, held in Gujarat in October 2022, she won gold in both the 100m hurdles competition and the 100m race.
She earned a gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles final event in 13.09 seconds on July 13, 2023, at the Asian Athletics Championship.
On August 4, 2023, she won bronze in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World University Games in Chengdu, breaking her national mark by finishing in 12.78 seconds. However, she missed qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics by 0.01 seconds.
